Chicago Coach Hails Mbokazi Signing

Posted on December 3, 2025

Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter is beaming with excitement following the capture of Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

The 20-year-old tough tackling defender was on Tuesday afternoon announced by Chicago to have penned a contract that will run through 2029, with an option for a further year, and will occupy a U-22 initiative slot as well as an international roster position.

Berhalter is already expecting ‘TLB’ to make an immediate impact upon his arrival at the club.

“We are excited to welcome Mbekezeli to the Club as we further strengthen our back line,” Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter said on the club’s official website.

“In his young career, he has already shown high potential and proven himself to be a strong leader and competitor on the international level. We expect immediate impact and room to grow in future.”
