Cheeseboy Shares Views On Saleng’s Bucs-Downs Switch

Posted on February 13, 2026

Lebohang Mokoena is one of the players who switched from Orlando Pirates to Mamelodi Sundowns, and the former winger believes Monnapule Saleng’s recent move could be a springboard back to Bafana Bafana.

Saleng, 27, joined Sundowns during the January transfer window in a move which surprised many in the South African football fraternity.

However, Masandawana fans still have to bide their time before they can see Saleng in action as he is currently nursing an injury which he picked up during his loan at ORBIT College.

‘Cheeseboy’, though, believes Saleng could be back to his best at Chloorkop.

“I think from an individual observation, it is good,” he told iDiski Times senior writer Matshelane Mamabolo.

“Saleng has always said he wanted to play at a higher level with high quality teammates and he’s going to have that at Sundowns that has so many internationals.

“I see this as an opportunity for him to even make it back to the national team in time for the World Cup.”

Saleng has made 11 appearances this campaign so far, scoring two goals and setting up three more, with Mokoena stating he thought the player had settled in nicely at ORBIT before his sudden exit.

“It can only be normal that he was affected by his situation at Pirates, and it was evident in that he took some time to settle at Orbit,” he continued.

“He lacked game-time and took a bit of time to let go of Pirates, so he was still adjusting to a new environment.

“But to me, he looked like he was slowly getting back to his true self before he got injured. And then boom, the move to Sundowns was announced.”
