Chaine – What We’ll Miss About Mbokazi

Posted on December 8, 2025

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine has shared what the team will miss most about departing defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

After the Africa Cup of Nations, the left-footed centre-back will move to Chicago Fire, who compete in the MLS in the United States.

Mbokazi played his final match for Ezimnyama Ngenkani this past Saturday, helping the team secure a victory over Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout Cup final at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

As captain for the day, with Nkosinathi Sibisi on the bench, the Hluhluwe-born defender ended his stint with a trophy, proudly wearing the armband as he led the team to lift the cup.

Chaine expressed that what he’ll miss most about Mbokazi is his commanding presence in the locker room and the energy he brought to the team.

“His presence in the dressing room, how he’s crazy and how he jokes around with everyone,” said Chaine.

“He’s been a really important piece of the parcel in the group. He brought his own Mbekezeli in the group.

“I think the most important thing is that in a team, everyone must bring himself. That’s the most important thing we’ll miss about him.”
