Chaine Reacts To Pirates Rallying Back To Beat Sundowns

Posted on August 24, 2025

Betway Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season Sipho Chaine reckons winning the MTN8 semifinals is not enough as they eye a record fourth title on the trot.

The Buccaneers rallied from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns before advancing to the final after a 4-1 penalty shootout victory.

Chaine saved two spot kicks from Teboho Mokoena and Marcelo Allende before Tshegofatso Mabasa slotted home the winning penalty and the Bucs goalminder says what matters most is them lifting the trophy.

“Amazing day to play in front of Amabakhaniya again,” he said to OP TV.

“What a game! For me personally, the game was very difficult in the beginning for each and every player.

“It felt like today was one of the hardest games I’ve ever played. On the back foot from the first half, on the back foot in the second half, but to be able to come back as a team and to be victorious today, to be smiling. It’s really amazing for me.

“I’m proud of the boys, I’m proud of the team.

“I think it’s not enough to win a semifinal. The most important thing is to come and play the final of the MTN8 and win it again.”
