Cardoso On Adams Return & Rotation

Posted on February 19, 2026

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso explained the revival of Jayden Adams, saying he treats players the same way and there are no starters or finishers at the club.

Sundowns seem to find their groove at the right time after they were under pressure in the last few months.

Jaydan Adams who was not playing before the start of this year seems to have found his feet again after producing stellar performances against MC Alger in the CAF Champions League and against Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership.

Modiba also struggled a bit with Divine Lunga and Thato Sibiya playing ahead of him, but the Bafana Bafana defender showed his class with back-to-back assists to Bryan Leon.

Cardoso explained that they don’t have starters in their team and he treats players that played on the day and players that didn’t play the same because they’re all part of the team.

“There’s a belief that we don’t have a first XI and that one is true. And neither Aubrey [Modiba] or Jaydan [Adams] were completely out of the team, they were just not in the line-up in the two matches and that can happen and will probably happen again in the nearest future,” Cardoso told the media.

“It’s impossible for players to consecutively play in the level these games. It was so tough today and on the weekend it was so tough and the trips we’ve had, and the nights we don’t sleep.

“Because you can imagine how much adrenaline that accumulates on the blood when he plays a match like this, to clear that and fall asleep is so difficult.

“So there’s a lot of work to be done when it comes to that. It seems like a player is out when he stays out for two matches, and the other comes but sometimes there’s three matches in seven days.

“Seven days doesn’t change a life anyone and that’s the belief that we try to install in our locker room. The starters, finishers and players that in the next one might start or finish.

“Imagine we have to play on Saturday, that’s the time to choose which ones are the best ones to start the match because there’s no best players and worse players, it’s just a group with a lot of quality, that have to rise when we put them in. We believe in all of them.

“I embrace in the same way that players that started the match or the ones that didn’t start. Fawaz [Basadien] came into my office after the match and I gave him a hug with the same intensity and I said congratulations in the same way I said to Grant [Kekana] or [Khuliso] Mudau or Ronwen [Williams] because they need to understand the coach believes in them.

“I will always believe in my players.”
