Can Kaizer Chiefs win the league?

Posted on February 18, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs sit in fourth place with 30 points, just eight shy of the leaders, Orlando Pirates, and two behind Mamelodi Sundowns, who are third.

With 15 matches still to play in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, Amakhosi remain well within the title race with Pirates and Sundowns.

It could be the first league championship since 2015, a full 11-year drought.

THE IMPORTANTANCE OF HOME GAMES FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef’s troops have several key matches at FNB Stadium, starting with Stellenbosch FC (24 February) and a Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates (28 February).

They will also host Durban City (15 March), Magesi FC (21 March), TS Galaxy (12 April) and Chippa United on the final day of the season.

If Kaizer Chiefs are serious about staying in the race, home form must be reliable. These are fixtures where dropped points would place additional pressure on their away schedule.

THE DERBY IMPACT ON THE TITLE RACE

The two league matches against Pirates, first at home on 28 February and then away on 25 April, could influence the direction of the title race.

Derbies can’t be predicted, but this season, points will be more important than bragging rights. Wins for Kaizer Chiefs over the Sea Robbers could be the difference between winning and losing the league title.

DEMANDING AWAY RUN

Kaizer Chiefs travel to Richards Bay (3 March), Orbit College (7 April), Magesi FC (15 April), Polokwane City (18 April), Mamelodi Sundowns (6 May), Sekhukhune United (10 May) and AmaZulu (16 May).

The trip to Loftus Versfeld to face Sundowns stands out. Taking home points there could be season-defining

WHAT MUST IMPROVE FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

Fifteen matches mean 45 points remain available. Realistically, Amakhosi will need to win the majority of their home fixtures, improve their away consistency and avoid setbacks in the direct clashes against Pirates and Sundowns.
