Can Kaizer Chiefs catch Orlando Pirates for second place?

Kaizer Chiefs are on course to finish in the top three following another convincing performance in the Betway Premiership.

Amakhosi outclasses TS Galaxy 2-0 at the FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon to extend their lead over fourth-place AmaZulu to three points with two games in hand. A few more wins will see Chiefs secure third place and qualify for the 2026/27 CAF Confederations Cup.

The club’s co-coaches of Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, are aiming to finish in the top three and, looking at their current trajectory, their target could be reached later this month.

What’s Kaizer Chiefs next target?

With the top three almost secured, perhaps Chiefs could punch above their weight and push for top two. Currently, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are fighting for the title and only one of them will win it.

Masandawana are now favourites with the Buccaneers having dropped points on Friday against Richards Bay.

If Pirates drop more points, they might be completely out of the title picture and emerging Kaizer Chiefs could smell blood and chase CAF Champions League spot. Amakhosi are 13 points behind the Sea Robbers but should the Glamour Boys win their games inhand, they could cut the gap to just seven points.

Speaking to SuperSport after Chiefs win over Orbit College, Amakhosi forward Wandile Duba reflected on the team’s performance and ambitions.

Kaizer Chiefs eyeing second?

“I’m very happy. We started the game poorly and only found our rhythm after 20 minutes,” said the Chiefs forward.

“Then we started having more of the ball and got the first goal.

“It’s just about keeping calm. We told each other that we should calm down. We knew our game plan would eventually work, even though it didn’t in the first 20 minutes.”

When asked whether Kaizer Chiefs are on course for a top-three finish, Duba raised the bar even higher, setting his sights on second place, currently occupied by arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.

Where will Amakhosi finish?
