Bvuma Withdraws from Bafana Squad, Johnson Called Up for COSAFA Cup

Posted on June 3, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has pulled out of South Africa’s COSAFA Cup squad due to undisclosed reasons. His place has been taken by Chippa United’s Darren Johnson, who joins the national team ahead of the regional tournament.

No official explanation has been given for Bvuma’s withdrawal, but the change provides an opportunity for Johnson to earn his first senior national team call-up. Bafana Bafana will begin their COSAFA Cup campaign this week as they aim to reclaim the Southern African title.
