Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has outlined why his team is stronger now than when they took part in the previous AFCON tournament.
The Belgian coach says his team has grown and improved since the last continental tournament held in Ivory Coast in early 2024.
Bafana defied expectations by ousting Morocco—African heavyweights—in the Round of 16 and later finishing the tournament with a bronze medal.
Aiming to improve on their previous campaign, Broos believes his side is now even more stronger. He says they are able to dominate many matches, and in those that they can’t, they have the resilience to grind results.
“The plan is that we’ll try and have good preparations we have two years ago,” said Broos.
“I think the way we played this year and the year before, we have some very good qualities in the team. And we have to play like how South Africa played in the last two, three years. We don’t have to change anything.
“We all know now, we can dominate an opponent and play good football. We also know that if a match requires a fight, we can fight.
“Those are the things that are important to play AFCON or the tournament. There will be games that we dominate but there will be games where we’ll fight a lot to win the game, but we can do it also and that makes us, I think, stronger than two years ago when we started the AFCON.
“So, the plan is to continue with what we’re doing and maybe try to be better in some things.”
