Broos Issues Strong Statement After Angola ‘Wake-Up Call’

Posted on December 24, 2025

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has issued a strong statement after his side kind of struggled against Angola, even though they eventually won the match.

South Africa initially had a good start against Angola, dominating possession and taking the lead through Oswin Appollis in the first half.

Angola responded by applying pressure and drew level via Manuel Show just before the break.

Broos revealed that he raised his voice at the players to spark a stronger second-half response, as Bafana looked to regain control and push for victory.

The coach was pleased with the improvement after the interval and insisted that such struggles will not happen again as the tournament progresses.

“When you start the tournament, the players will also feel how things are going,” said Broos.

“We played against the team [Angola] that plays differently from ‘African football’, it’s technical football and it’s passing football.

“For us, we were a little bit surprised after the goal we scored. We thought things are done, but it was a wake-up call, and I wake the players also at half-time.

“The players knew that if we continued to play like that, we were going to lose the game.

“I know these guys, it will not happen anymore, it was just lucky for us that we win this game so that we don’t have damage. So, it will not happen anymore.”
