Broos Credits Bafana Star After Opening AFCON Win

Posted on December 22, 2025

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos was hugely impressed with substitute Tshepang Moremi who sparked his charges into life after a less impressive showing in the first half.

Bafana defeated COSAFA rivals Angola 2-1 in Marrakech on Monday to start the campaign on a good note. South Africa took the lead through Oswin Appollis only to let the lead go before halftime. The changes made by Broos in his 50th match as Bafana coach revived the team to fight to regain the lead with man of the match Lyle Foster scoring the winner in the second stanza.

Broos was pleased with the result especially ahead of their upcoming second Group B match with Egypt on Boxing Day. The coach also gave substitute Tshepang Moremi props for making instant impact.

“We tried to avoid that one [losing] because if we should have lost again today and then we have the game against Egypt you are big in trouble,” said Broos on SABC Sport after the match.

“I wasn’t pleased with the game we played in the first half. At just a moment we led 1-0 then we fell asleep we let Angola come in back in the game. So, we put something right during halftime and you see the second half we make more pressure, there is more movement in the team and then we have chances and this is what I want.

“Tshepang did a wonderful come in the team suddenly there was speed in our team, he was dangerous he scored a goal with an offside I don’t know what happened there.

“But he was a threat for Angolans, and he did well for the 45 minutes he played.”
