Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has announced his preliminary squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers double header against Lesotho and Nigeria next month.
South Africa have put themselves in a favourable position to qualify for next year’s world showpiece in the USA as they currently top Group C with 13 points, five ahead of second-placed Rwanda.
Broos’ charges won their last two qualifying ties beating Likuena 2-0 before following that up with an away victory over Benin with the same scoreline.
Despite the clash against Lesotho being an away game, the match will however be played on Mzansi soil at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Monday, September 1 as Lesotho do not have stadia that matches CAF’s standard criteria.
The much anticipated encounter against long-time rivals, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, will also be staged at the Free State Stadium on Monday, September 8.
Broos will still trim his squad ahead of the upcoming international break.
