Broos Addresses Lorch’s AFCON Non-Selection

Posted on December 24, 2025

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has once reiterated his stance on the exclusion of Wydad Casablanca attacker Thembinkosi Lorch.

There has been a certain section of fans who have expressed their feeling towards the continued snub of ‘Nyoso’ leading up to the AFCON finals in Morocco, where he plies his trade, after rediscovering his old form at the Red Castle outfit.

Speaking to the media after Bafana’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Angola, Broos explained why he opted not to pick the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns winger.

“First instance, this is a choice. I think I have 45 players or something like that where I can choose. So, you have to make choices. That is one,” said the Belgian on the SABC News YouTube Page.

“Secondly, everybody is talking about Lorch, Lorch, Lorch. I didn’t hear or see him in the last three years. He was playing in Pirates, and they kicked him out. He was playing in Sundowns, but they kicked him out. He was playing in Wydad Casablanca, I think. He didn’t play anymore. And now suddenly he plays well.

“I did my choice and made my choice, and that’s it. I can maybe give you some other names, maybe this one or that one or another one. You know, when I make my choices, I make my choices on my own. And that’s it.”
