Bobby On Why Chiefs Didn’t Make January Signings

Posted on February 12, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung has delved into reasons behind the club not dipping into the January transfer window.

Xhosa Manyana was the only arrival on loan from Cape Town City for the rest of the season though he was recruited for their DStv Diski Challenge side. The 20-year-old was previously on the books of Major League Side FC Cincinnati in the USA before his return to Mzansi.

PSL rivals Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, AmaZulu and Sekhukhune United were the busiest of the lot on the recruitment front while Amakhosi surprisingly were quiet despite being dumped out of two domestic cups.

According to ‘Bobsteak’, the Naturena-based outfit was looking to avoid “destabilising” the change room with new recruits and opted for consistency instead.

“We’re happy with the squad. Remember we brought in some new players last season and young players,” he said at Chiefs’ Carling Black Label sponsorship announcement.

“We also brought in some few young players from the development and looking at the type of quality players we’ve brought in.

“Like I said, there’s lots of competition. Some of them have not even played even now. They have not been given a chance to play because of the depth that we’ve got.

“So, we can’t complain about the squad at the moment. Quality of players, unity, team spirit that is there.

“We felt let’s not interrupt and spoil anything because you bring in new players, it’s a change in the change room, the mood and everything.

“So, we needed to be consistent.”
