Kaizer Chiefs will face Stellenbosch FC in their opening Betway Premiership encounter without one of their top players.
Amakhosi travel to the Athlone Stadium, where they will open their season against Steve Barker’s men. The Soweto giants were not involved in last week’s MTN8 action after finishing outside the top 8.
On Sunday, Chiefs will have to do without the services of Pule Mmodi, who was sent off in the club’s final game of the last edition against Sekhukhune United last season. Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi had admitted that it would be a big blow for his side to be without the talented winger.
“We are ready but just regretting the absence of Pule Mmodi for the first game because of suspension,” he said ahead of the match.
“He is an important player for us. But I need to give confidence for all the players to get a positive result,” Nabi said.
In terms of signings, the Kaizer Chiefs coach indicated that the club were far from done. So far, six players were brought in during the transfer window. Former TS Galaxy striker Dzenan Zajmovic is one of the players linked to the club.
“I don’t want to start about the striker from Galaxy. I don’t know if he is in the vision of the club. I also don’t know if his administrative problem is finished,” Nabi told the media.
“I don’t know. But if we have the opportunity to recruit him, particularly if he has residence automatically, yes.
Can Kaizer Chiefs add more players?
“The window is not closed. I think if you have opportunities, our scouting team will do the work. If you have a good opportunity, then why not?
“But I want a player with more qualities than I have. I don’t want a player with the same quality,” Nabi concluded.
Will Chiefs beat Stellies?
