Ben Youssef Praises In-Form Chiefs Star

Posted on February 1, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Khalil Ben Youssef has heaped praise on in-form midfielder Lebohang Maboe following another strong performance in the recent match.

The 31-year-old continued his impressive run of form on Saturday afternoon as Amakhosi edged Zesco United 1–0 in a CAF Confederation Cup group-stage encounter at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

He was influential in midfield, dictating play and showcasing his experience on the continental stage.

Maboe joined the Soweto giants on a free transfer after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns, where he enjoyed a successful seven-year spell that included multiple domestic titles and continental success.

Since his arrival at Naturena, the midfielder has quickly settled into the squad and become a key figure in the team.

So far this season, Maboe has featured in nine matches across all competitions, making four appearances in the CAF Confederation Cup and five in the Betway Premiership. His consistency and work rate have stood out, earning him the trust of the technical team.

Speaking after the match, Ben Youssef highlighted Maboe’s importance to the side, describing him—along with several other Chiefs midfielders—as a crucial component of the team.

The coach revealed that he shares a close working relationship with the player and regularly engages him in tactical discussions, underlining the level of confidence he has in him.

“I think Maboe is one of the important players for us, he’s a smart player and a professional player for us,” said Ben Youssef.

“I’m so close to him, we discuss a lot about tactics and everything. Using him gives us a lot of stability also.

“Ndlovu and Mshini also give us a lot of solutions. All of them come with tactical quality. We manage them and choose which to play for this game.”
