Basadien On Challenge Of Earning Place At Sundowns

Posted on December 31, 2025

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Fawaaz Basadien has opened up on the challenge of adapting and earning his place in the Tshwane giants.

The Bafana Bafana defender switched from Stellenbosch FC to Masandawana at the beginning of the season, but has struggled for minutes, featuring in seven games and starting only three.

Basadien says adjusting to life at a big club like Sundowns isn’t easy and admits that it will take time to earn his spot in the team.

“Of course, adapting to a new setup and earning your place in a team of such quality takes time,” Basadien told Sundowns Magazine.

“However, I understand and respect that I must fight for my place, as we have some exceptional defenders. That motivates me to work harder every day. I am also fully aware of the responsibility that comes with the badge.”

Basadien, however, believes that he has what it takes to add value to the team and play a role in their success.

“I feel confident that my skills and experience can add value to what Sundowns want to achieve on the pitch,” he added.

“I want to bring consistency, energy and leadership every time I step onto the field and help the team maintain our high standards.”
