Bafana Star Leaves Club In Europe, Chiefs Interested

Posted on January 29, 2026

Bafana Bafana star Mihlali Mayambela has officially left Cyprian giants Aris Limassol after successful three seasons, with Kaizer Chiefs one of the club’s understood to be interested in him.

Mayambela, 29, had six months left on his contract with Aris but the club announced he has left by mutual agreement.

“Aris and Mayambela concluded collaboration Aris Limassol FC announces the mutual termination of its agreement with South African winger Mihlali Mayambela,” the club stated.

“Aris Limassol expresses its sincere gratitude to Mihlali Mayambela for his valuable contribution to the club and wishes him every success in the next chapter of his career.”

It is understood Cypriot club Omnia Nicosia and South African giants Chiefs are the two sides that have shown interest to sign the winger in recent months.

After 125 appearances with Aris during which he scored 19 goals and made 15 assists, he is now preparing for new adventures, making the decision to leave Aris now despite the fact that he still had a contract until the end of the season.

The speedy winger aims to return to Bafana Bafana squad after missing out on the Africa Cup of Nations, with a potential return to South Africa perhaps helping him to fight his way back to the national team ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Mayambela had a great stint at Aris, helping them to win their first-ever league title, as well as the Cypriot Super Cup in 2023. He has also featured in the UEFA Europa League as well as UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
