Bafana boss Broos praises Kaizer Chiefs star

Posted on October 16, 2025

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is impressed with what he’s seen from Kaizer Chiefs star Mduduzi Shabalala.

The 21-year-old got a substitute cameo in South Africa’s 3-0 win over Rwanda on Tuesday.

As a result, Bafana have qualified for the 2026 World Cup.

Broos discussed Kaizer Chiefs star Mduduzi Shabalala

Hugo Broos has heaped praise on Kaizer Chiefs’ Mduduzi Shabalala after an encouraging cameo against Rwanda.

“When you work with young players, it’s normal not to just give them a standard position in the team,” said Broos.

“So, you have to bring them easily and at the right moment. And I think today it was the right moment, even though it was only three or five minutes.

“He tasted the atmosphere; he tasted the group spirit. I wouldn’t give him a chance if I didn’t see in training how he behaved,” added the Belgian.

“If I make an example with Shabalala, he wanted to prove himself in training, and this is what I want.”

What’s next for Kaizer Chiefs?

Meanwhile, Chiefs have endured a rocky patch of late, losing in the first round of the Telkom Knockout to Stellenbosch on penalties. That followed a sequence of three winless league matches; a 1-3 defeat to Sekhukhune and 1-1 draws against Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu. Next up is a battle with Siwelele.

Chiefs vs Siwelele kicks off on Wednesday, 22 October at 19:30. It will be aired on SS PSL (DSTv channel 202, available to Compact subscribers.
