Bafana are a bit casual ahead of World Cup, Khune warns
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has warned Bafana Bafana as they prepare for the FIFA World Cup scheduled to take place in Canada, USA and Mexico.

The retired keeper felt South Africa’s defence was complacent having watched the Panama friendly on Friday.

Bafana Bafana have not kept a clean sheet in their last six matches and against Panama in the two friendlies, they conceded soft goals.

“The guys were a bit casual, and this is not the first time that it has happened. Even at the World Cup and AFCON qualifiers, we saw similar goals being conceded,” Khune said on SABC Sport.

Khune not happy with Bafana ahead of World Cup

The former Bafana Bafana captain said that the team was overconfident and conceding silly goals.

“So, the guys need to stop being complacent at the back, and the coach did say that there is nothing wrong with kicking the ball to the stands if you are under pressure. So, the guys are overconfident and are overdoing it, and this is what we get: conceding silly goals.

“We need to go back and make sure that we clean up this mess before we go to the World Cup,” said the Bafana legend.

With just 70 days before the World Cup starts, Bafana appear to be in sixes and sevens ahead of their opener against Mexico. Defeat and a draw against Panama in the two friendly games will surely worry Hugo Broos in the coming months.

Do you agree with Khune?
