Appollis Shares Advice With Campbell & Smith

Posted on December 15, 2025

Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis has offered advice to the duo of Shandre Campbell and Tylon Smith following their inclusion in Hugo Broos’ final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad.

The youngsters have impressed at club level and for the national U20 side that won their division’s AFCON this year and qualified for the World Cup.

Broos, who has spoken about keeping the senior squad young and also given youngsters chances, included them in the 25-man squad to travel to Morocco for the tournament later this year.

Appollis knows the position the duo is in having been the youngster that travelled with Bafana to the last AFCON in Ivory Coast. He only played one game, the third/fourth place playoff against DR Congo and for less than 15 minutes and advised Campbell and Smith to be patient.

“Obviously going to AFCON at that time in 2023, you know sitting on the bench always wanting to play,” Appollis answered iDiski Times about the duo.

“But you knew that you just came into the national team, always there motivating the other players. When I got my minutes I was super happy because it’s also one of the big tournaments in Africa.

“And my advice to Shandre and Smith is that they will get their opportunity just have to be patient.”
