Any Positives Drawn From AFCON? Broos Answers

Posted on January 10, 2026

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has reflected on whether the team drew any positives from their AFCON campaign despite an early exit.

South Africa exited the continental tournament at the Round of 16 stage after losing to Cameroon, a step back from the bronze medal they secured in the last edition.

Many remained unconvinced by the team’s group-stage displays, despite recording two wins and one defeat ahead of the Round of 16.

Broos said the team still gained valuable experience from the tournament, despite the disappointment of an early exit that brought their big ambitions to an end.

“It was a good experience certainly even though it was a bad experience maybe,” said Broos, as per Diski Fans.

“It’s the way you want to look at it. But I always say the team for a country like South Africa has to be in every AFCON.

“And for a moment, we succeeded to do that. Okay, this was less good than the other one, but we were there, that’s the most important thing and we are also at the World Cup.

“Let’s hope that in the coming years, I will see South Africa in the next AFCON and in the next World Cup because those are levels where you learn a lot.”
