Another Orlando Pirates star in formal talks to leave this month

Posted on January 14, 2026

Orlando Pirates FC have already said their goodbyes to Monnapule Saleng, Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

Now, reports suggest the club in talks with a fellow Betway Premiership side over a loan deal for one of their struggling superstars.

Abdeslam Ouaddou is adamant he won’t need the services of lethal striker Tshegofatso Mabasa for the remainder of the campaign.

The Bucs coach prefers the likes of Yanele Mbuthuma and Evidence Makgopa in attack.

Struggling Orlando Pirates star linked with loan move

According to the latest transfer rumours, Orlando Pirates striker Mabasa is wanted by Stellenbosch.

The Cape side are looking to jump up the league’s log-standings under new manager Gavin Hunt.

Stellies currently sit in 14th position in the league, one point above the relegation zone.

Hunt will know very well that he needs as many goals as possible, and it’s for that reason that Stellenbosch are pushing to sign Mabasa from Orlando Pirates on loan until the end of the season.

“I can tell you, Stellenbosch are interested in signing Tshego, and there are formal talks,” an insider told KickOff.

“It is not concrete yet that he will move, but they want to sign him on loan until the end of the season so he can get game time. You can see Pirates are not going to let him play because of contract issues. So he might go on loan, and the decision on whether he stays or leaves will be made at the end of the season.”

Incoming players in Mayfair

The Buccaneers have already signed three players in the January transfer window.

Orlando Pirates welcomed Andre De Jong, Daniel Msendami and Mpho Chabatsane to the club.

With Mabasa set to leave on loan, it remains to be seen whether they’ll target one more out-and-out striker.
