AmaZulu superfan ‘Usuthu Queen’ dies

Long-standing AmaZulu FC supporter Luyanda Mbuyazi, affectionately known among football fans as the “Usuthu Queen,” has passed away after a short illness.

Mbuyazi died in the early hours of Tuesday, leaving a deep sense of loss among supporters of the Durban-based club and the wider South African football community.

Unwavering support

She became widely recognised for her unwavering support and vibrant presence at matches involving AmaZulu FC, often standing out in the crowd with her distinctive dress and energetic support for the team.

, the club paid tribute to Mbuyazi, describing her as a passionate supporter who embodied the spirit of the Usuthu fan base.

“AmaZulu Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing of Luyanda Mbuyazi. She will be remembered not only for her passion for the game but also for the pride with which she carried the colours and culture of AmaZulu FC,” the club said.

Vibrant presence

The club added that Mbuyazi’s loyalty and vibrant presence made her a beloved figure among supporters.

“Her love for the club went far beyond matchdays. She represented the spirit of the supporters – energetic, proud and deeply connected to the identity of Usuthu. Through her advocacy and participation in supporter initiatives, she helped strengthen the voice and visibility of AmaZulu fans.”

Mbuyazi’s death comes shortly after the passing of another prominent football supporter, Charles ‘Makhalanjalo‘ Fantisi, a fan of Orlando Pirates who died last week.

Funeral arrangements for Mbuyazi are expected to be announced in due course.

Next match

Meanwhile, AmaZulu FC currently sit fifth on the league table with 31 points from 20 matches and are set to host Richards Bay FC on Saturday, 14 March at 15:30.

Usuthu will be looking to bounce back after being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Casric Stars last weekend.
