AmaZulu FC have confirmed the departure of experienced duo Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Augustine Mulenga as the club opts against renewing the contracts of the 35-year-old players.

The decision comes as part of Usuthu’s squad restructuring ahead of the new season. Mphahlele, the former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns defender, joined AmaZulu in 2022, while Zambian attacker Mulenga arrived in 2020 from Orlando Pirates.

Club president Sandile Zungu stated: “We thank both players for their service and professionalism during their time with us. These are difficult decisions we must make as we build for the future.”

The veteran pair’s release suggests AmaZulu may be looking to lower the average age of their squad as they prepare for the 2024/25 DStv Premiership campaign. Both players are now free agents and could consider retirement or opportunities elsewhere in the PSL.
