AmaZulu In Talks To Move Some Home Matches To New Venue

Posted on November 8, 2025

AmaZulu FC are currently considering hosting select home matches at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

Having recently celebrated their 93rd-year birthday, Usuthu have been synonymous with being a Durban-based club for decades.

This season, the club has been utilising Moses Mabhida Stadium in the Durban CBD and Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu as their two main home venues.

According to AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu, the club is currently engaging the Msunduzi Municipality with the aim of playing some home fixtures at Harry Gwala.

While Zungu acknowledged AmaZulu’s good relationship with Durban, he raised concerns about the lack of financial backing provided by the city.

He mentioned that the club lost Durban Tourism as a sponsor, a partnership that is no longer there.

“Let me make it clear that our relationship with Durban is very good, we’re good here. We respect each other and we don’t complain about it,” Zungu told uKhozi FM as translated from IsiZulu.

“The only thing we cry out about is that we don’t get financial backing even though the work we do to empower the community is that big, but we don’t get sufficient support.

“Sometimes, even the clubs that are from outside Durban, they are paid monies for them to come and play their home games in Durban while us we don’t get that support.

“We had a Durban Tourism sponsor at some point. It’s no longer there, we don’t get anything.

“So, going to Pietermaritzburg is still in talks but there’s still no certainty. We have even spoken to the people there; we can play two or three games in a season.

“I know they also have a stadium that they wouldn’t like to see it turning a white elephant while we also have fans there and areas in and around.

“So, let’s say we are on those talks, but we have a good relationship with the city of Durban.”

Currently, Midlands Wanders, who are playing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, are using Harry Gwala as the home venue this season.
