AGF Make Major Decision On In-Demand Links

AGF Aarhus have rewarded wing-back Gift Links with a new long-term contract after several outstanding seasons with the club.

Links, 26, has emerged as one of the leading performers in the Danish Superliga since joining AGF from Cape Town City in what was confirmed as a record €800k sale by the club back in 2019.

While he arrived as a promising winger at the age of 21, Links has since developed into a reliable wing-back, featuring on either flank and a clear fan favourite due to his explosive displays.

Having been named in the Superliga Team of the Season for two consecutive campaigns it came as no surprise to see interest emerge from several clubs but AGF have now secured him on a new lucrative deal.

“It’s a great deal for Gifty, a new long-term contract that will take him through probably his 10th year with the club, he’s been there for six solid seasons and been a great performer,” his representative Paul Mitchell from SSG told iDiski Times.

“Naturally we had a lot of interest in Gifty, including offers for him to go elsewhere, but when we sat down and looked at everything. Gifty is really settled in Aarhus, it’s a place where he will probably retire after football for sure.

“But when we looked at the different and interest and offers, we looked at the very, very, good offer that AGF put in front of Gifty… we looked at the project of AGF, how loved he is in the city, loved by the fans, and how he loves being part of AGF and the city.

“Gifty decided more than anybody, that it was right for him to stay and get AGF really up there to challenge for the league, they have been banging on the door for the last few seasons but really to kick on and make that challenge. But we’re very proud of him, pleased for him and thank you to AGF as well.”

There was a notable campaign in Danish media for the club to secure Links’ future, describing him as one of their most important players, having racked up 172 appearances for the club at his age, with 13 goals and 17 assists.
