After Sundowns fell to a 3-2 defeat at TS Galaxy on Wednesday, Orlando Pirates can smell their first Betway Premiership title since 2012.
Orlando Pirates are on the brink
After Sundowns’ 3-2 defeat at TS Galaxy on Wednesday, Pirates need just four points from their two remaining fixtures to mathematically guarantee the title. Even three points could do it, but four would make it a sure thing. Next up is a home clash with Durban City on Saturday, 16 May. Kickoff is at 15:00, and the match will air on DStv channel 202. These are their remaining fixtures:
- Saturday, 16 May vs Durban City, Orlando Stadium – 15:00
- Saturday, 23 May vs Orbit College, Royal Bafokeng Stadium – 15:00
Mofokeng dilemma still looms for Orlando Pirates
Meanwhile, 21-year-old winger-cum playmaker Rele Mofokeng is expected to play a central role for Bafana Bafana at the World Cup in the Americas. Not a day goes by that publications aren’t speculating as to where he might be playing his club football next season. If he shines in the Americas during the 2026 World Cup, there could be some big-name suitors. Mofokeng has 10 goals and eight assists from 25 league appearances this term. Would now be a good time to sell to a wealthy suitor in Europe?
