Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has made comparison to Kaizer Chiefs under Nasreddine Nabi and under the current co-coaches.
This comes after Masandawana were held to a 1-1 draw by Amakhosi in a Betway Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday night.
The former Esperance coach felt Chiefs were much better under Nabi than now with Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze in charge.
“I think last year with coach Nabi, we saw a much more dangerous Kaizer Chiefs than we saw here this year,” said Cardoso.
“Last year the two matches we played against Kaizer Chiefs, the one we played in Lucas [Moripe Stadium] and then the cup here [Loftus Versfeld].”
Although Downs defeated Chiefs twice last season, Amakhosi eliminated them in the Nedbank Cup semi-final.
Cardoso said Chiefs under Nabi were difficult to beat and never showed aggression.
“In transitions, the Nabi’s team was more difficult to cope rather than today because the team today, I think we stayed there.
“Even with 10 men we stayed there. We stayed aggressive in the pitch, we took control of the game and there was a lot of respect on us. So I’m happy because of that.
Chiefs won the Nedbank Cup with Nabi
“But last year I think they were stronger in terms of the way they tried to counter attack us,” Cardoso added.
After winning the Nedbank Cup with Chiefs, Nabi only lasted four more months before he was given the boot. Under the two co-coaches, Amakhosi have had their best season since 2020.
