Kaizer Chiefs’ defeat to Siwelele has raised fresh concerns, coming just days after their hard-fought draw against Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby.
The Soweto giants saw their seven-match unbeaten run come to an end, although they remain third in the Betway Premiership standings.
Speaking on Soccerbeat, former South African footballer Peter du Toit criticised Amakhosi’s overall performance, pointing out what he believes are fundamental flaws in their style of play.
“There’s nothing good about this Kaizer Chiefs team. There’s nothing I saw today that made me say, ‘wow, this is the Kaizer Chiefs we know.’ Yes, they came to the party last weekend against Pirates, but that’s because they didn’t have the ball,” he said.
“They are a better team without the ball. When they have it, they become a bad team. They are not good enough, whether it’s the coach or the players they signed, they are just not good.”
Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi also delivered a scathing assessment, describing the performance as both frustrating and painful to watch.
“It was shocking and extremely depressing to watch a football match like this, especially when it’s a team you love playing like that,” he said.
Kaizer Chiefs feeling the heat
“Again, you look at the goalkeeper being let down by the players in front of him. There were errors from Msimango and Inácio in the second half that were not even punished. Chiefs need to take a hard look at themselves and start asking serious questions.”
