Mamelodi Sundowns are on the brink of history – and there is more than just continental glory at stake.
The Brazilians have spent the past decade chasing a second CAF Champions League title, and now they are just 180 minutes away from ending that wait.
This time, however, the reward far greater than ever with millions up for grabs for the winner of the 2025/26 title.

MILLIONS ON THE LINE IN CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL
The winners of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League will walk away with a staggering $6 million prize – a 50% increase under CAF’s new structure.
That figure translates to over R100 million, adding serious financial incentive to an already massive occasion.
The runners-up will take home $4 million (R67 million).

For Mamelodi Sundowns, this is not just about lifting a trophy. It is about cementing their legacy as one of Africa’s elite clubs while securing a financial boost that could further strengthen their dominance.
Standing in their way are AS FAR Rabat, a side returning to the final stage for the first time in the modern era.
Their only previous triumph came back in 1985, long before the competition evolved into its current format.
EXPERIENCE GIVES THE BRAZILIANS THE EDGE
This will be Mamelodi Sundowns’ fourth CAF Champions League final. That experience could prove decisive.
They lifted the trophy in 2016 under Pitso Mosimane. During a golden period that saw Percy Tau in his prime under ‘Jingles’ when Masandawana conquered the continent with confidence and flair.
Since then, they have consistently remained among Africa’s top contenders.
Recent campaigns have added further steel to this squad.
High-level exposure, including participation in global competitions and another run to the latter stages, has sharpened their edge in the ‘big’ moments.
The Brazilians recently competed in the 202 FIFA Club World Cup where they faced the likes of German giants Borussia Dortmund (lost 4-3) and Brazilian-based outfit Fluminese (0-0) where they gave a good account of themselves.
Back home, they also returned to the top of the latest Betway Premiership standings after defeating Polokwane City 1-0 in a hard fought victory on Wednesday evening.
HISTORY BECKONS
There is no shortage of motivation.
A second star, a place in the history books, and over R100 million is all on the line and within touching distance for The Brazilians.
Therefore, this is more than just a final for Mamelodi Sundowns. It is an opportunity to finally turn years of near-misses into a defining triumph.
The two-legged final will take place on Friday, 15 May in Pretoria and on Sunday, 24 May in Rabat.
