Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze will temporarily step away from club duties after being called up to assist the Burundi national football team during the current FIFA international break.
The Soweto giants have agreed to release Kaze, who will take up a role as technical adviser for his home nation.
International duty calls
Burundi are set to face Chad in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers preliminary round, with fixtures scheduled as follows:
- 27 March: Away leg
- 31 March: Home leg
Kaze, who previously served as assistant coach of Burundi – known as Intamba m’Urugamba – returns to the national set-up to support the current technical team.
Back in time for Kaizer Chiefs duty
Kaze is expected to return to Naturena immediately after the second leg, rejoining Kaizer Chiefs ahead of their next Betway Premiership fixture.
Amakhosi are set to face Orbit College on Monday, 6 April at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.
Gaining international experience
Kaizer Chiefs have backed the move, with the club expressing support for Kaze as he continues to build his experience on the international stage.
His temporary departure comes during the FIFA international window, minimising disruption to club commitments as the Glamour Boys prepare for a crucial run-in in their domestic campaign.
