Orlando Pirates displayed their best football of the season by dismantling TS Galaxy 6-0 at the Mbombela Stadium.

Relebohile Mofokeng was the star of the show as he scored a hat-trick to give the Buccaneers all three points and take his team to the top of the Betway Premiership.

Having dropped points against Siwelele, Pirates needed a spirited performance to return to winning ways and put pressure on Mamelodi Sundowns.

Bucs head coach Abseslam Ouaddou praised his side for their response following last week’s draw with Siwelele.

Orlando Pirates top of the log

“I think it’s more than a reaction, it’s a fantastic game for us, it’s a very good answer for people who have a doubt about commitment, about the commitment of the boys. You know, I always say that there’s nobody in our team coming on the pitch with the willing to lose or willing to draw,” Ouaddou told SuperSport TV.

“And I think some people need to understand that all people, players are sweating in the shirt and it’s simple we scored six goals today because we had a fantastic support by the true fans – every time we come here in that city we have a fantastic support.”

Can Orlando Pirates claim R20m?

The Buccaneers have already collected around R17 million, having won both the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup earlier this season. Should they win the league, they would bag R20 million and complete their first treble in 14 years.

For that to happen, they will need to win their remaining eight games and hope Downs drops points. With the likes of Relebohile Mofokeng and Kamogelo Sebelebele showing form, the odds could be in the Bucs favour.

Orlando Pirates will need to be clinical in front of goals in their coming matches to put pressure on their rivals. Another slip could end their title bid.
