A struggling Orlando Pirates midfielder looks set to remain at the club beyond the end of the season.
Many believed Kabelo Dlamini’s future at the club was up considering Abdeslam Ouaddou’s reluctance to use him.
With his contract due to end in June, a contract extensions seemed highly unlikely. However, new reports suggest otherwise.
Orlando Pirates open talks with Kabelo Dlamini
Kabelo Dlamini has featured nine times for Orlando Pirates this season. Worryingly, none of those came as starts. They’ve all been cameo appearances off the bench.
It’s true, Abdeslam Ouaddou requires a certain style of players to fit in his system. And at the moment, the Bucs coach doesn’t rate Dlamini highly.
The same could be said about prolific goal-scorer Tshegofatso Mabasa who unfortunately didn’t meet Ouaddou’s requirements.
However, it appears Orlando Pirates are taking a different route with Dlamini. While Mabasa was frozen out completely and eventually left on loan, Dlamini looks set to remain at the club despite his limited playing opportunities!
“News reaching this website is that Pirates have opened negotiations with Dlamini’s camp over a contract extension, with the talks currently in the early stages,” a Soccer Laduma report read.
Dlamini is reportedly currently nursing an injury, however he’s been tipped to play a bigger role at the club when he does return to action.
Bucs will need his experience
Orlando Pirates will need Kabelo Dlamini’s creativity and experience as the season draws to a close.
After leading the log-standings for much of the way this season, Sundowns have officially leapfrogged the Buccaneers at the top of table.
With nine games to go, Abdeslam Ouaddou may have to call upon his experienced stars to help push for the title and this is where Dlamini may find himself back in the puzzle at Mayfair.
Next up for Orlando Pirates is a trip to TS Galaxy. The Bucs face The Rockets at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the Betway Premiership.
