Despite Friday night’s 2-0 win over Paradou, MC Alger have announced that Rulani Mokwena has left the club by mutual agreement.
The Soweto born coach’s spell with Algiers began in July 2025 with huge expectation and, for the most part, he delivered exactly that before ending rather abruptly in March 2026.
MC ALGER ANNOUNCE RULANI MOKWENA’S EXIT
“The management of Algeria MC announces the departure of South African coach Rulani Mokwena for the club’s technical model,” the club said. “Following the activation of the clause that ends his duties as head of the first team, where the contract ensures that Benda pays the coach two salaries in case he wishes to leave.
“The decision came after the coach’s meeting with the club’s management, during which he expressed his conviction to end his experience with the team, after a career that lasted eight months,” the club concluded.

DOMINANCE IN LEAGUE RACE
MC Alger have produced a commanding campaign in the 2025/26 Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 season, currently sitting comfortably at the top of the standings.
Rulani Mokwena’s club collected 43 points from 19 matches, opening a five-point gap over nearest challengers CS Constantine while still holding four games in hand.
Their league run has been built on remarkable efficiency, recording 13 wins, four draws and just two defeats so far. The team’s balance has also been a key factor behind their dominance, scoring 25 goals while conceding only eight, the best defensive record in the league.
Silverware arrived early in his tenure when Rulani Mokwena led the club to victory in the 2025 Algerian Super Cup, adding another trophy to his growing reputation as one of Africa’s most respected tactical minds.
Rulani Mokwena also publicly voiced frustration over the club’s inability to secure some of his preferred transfer targets.
Those internal pressures were amplified when MC Alger were eliminated from both the Algerian Cup and the CAF Champions League group stage.
