50 Is Not For Everyone – Broos

Posted on November 16, 2025

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has congratulated midfielder Teboho Mokoena for earning his 50th cap for the national team in the international friendly against Zambia on Saturday.

The 28 year old started the match that Bafana won 3-1 in Gqeberha though only playing 45 minutes. The game was part of preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament starting in Morocco in late December.

Broos hailed the Mamelodi Sundowns man saying the milestone is not reached by just anyone. The coach further said Mokoena played more games under the Belgian and has potential to play even more matches.

“It’s fantastic,” said Broos. “I think it was my 40th game or something as a coach and Teboho was there from the beginning that I was with the national team.

“So that means that he played all of his 50 games with us, with me as a coach. So in four years, playing 50 national team games is fantastic.

“That means also that he played every game and everybody knows that Teboho became a very important player for us. And you saw that also the second half we missed the intelligence of the game of Teboho.

“So I congratulate him. Certainly, it’s not given to everyone to have 50 and now maybe, he will even have more international games. So Teboho become little by little one of the important South African national team players.”
